A trip to Tate Britain for Year 2

14.10.2019

On Thursday 10th October Year 2 girls had an exciting trip into London to The Tate Britain.

They explored the gallery, looking for work by Henry Moore, JMW Turner and the Pre- Raphaelites. The girls were able to talk about which work of art they admired and they enjoyed sketching in their work books. In addition, they found it interesting to see abstract paintings which were similar to paintings they had created in class. The gallery gave the girls the opportunity to expand their vocabulary by describing aspects of some paintings and they were able to apply their knowledge of materials by finding out what some of the sculptures were made of. The girls have since been inspired to use this experience to create soap sculptures based on the work of Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth in their Art lesson in school.

It was a pleasure to see such young children so enthusiastic about seeing a wide range of artwork and many members of the public commented on their exemplary behaviour.
