Computing

Through teaching Computing we equip our girls to participate in a world where, in recent years, work and leisure activities have been transformed by technology.

We focus on developing the skills needed for children to be able to use information technology effectively. Computing skills are a major factor in enabling children to be confident, independent learners.

At High March formal Computing lessons start in Year 1 and our girls receive discrete Computing lessons with the Head of Computing at both Junior House and Upper School. Coding is introduced in Year 1 and this is continued throughout the school. All the main Microsoft packages are taught. Digital photography, stop frame animation and filming projects are also undertaken; computer sytems, vector drawings and 3-D modelling are also topics covered in the curriculum.  On-line safety is a subject which we take extremely seriously and it is taught at an age appropriate level to all year groups.

The Computing suites are also used by other curriculum areas, and each computer has a range of software to support the girls’ work. All main classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards and networked PCs. At Upper School there are sets of laptops and Ipads which can be taken to the classroom, when needed. Junior House classes each have ten LearnPads, which are regularly used in the class teachers’ lessons.

All pupils at Upper School have their own username,  password and school email address, which are used to access their work. The School network is protected by a comprehensive web and email filtering solution; this is overseen by a full time Network Manager.
