Year Two

Year 2

Year Two are the oldest girls in Junior House and, as such, they are encouraged to take increasing responsibility for themselves and their own learning.

Teaching of core subjects is by a form teacher with the support of teaching assistants, with specialist teachers for PE, Swimming, ICT, Music and French. School trips are planned to enhance the girls’ experiences and expand their understanding of the curriculum; these include the Roald Dahl Museum, Tate Modern, Frogmore Mill and RHS Wisley. The girls also enjoy visits from ‘History Off the Page’, who help to bring history alive through their Fire of London and Florence Nightingale Days.

Small class sizes enable us to offer a nurturing environment where each and every child can be encouraged to achieve her individual potential. Differentiation allows for the more able child to be stretched and extended and all children to be supported in areas where they are less competent.

We aim to develop the whole child in an all-round educational environment, not only in academic areas but also in the creative arts and to boost self-esteem and social and emotional awareness, so that each child is happy, fulfilled and challenged, whatever her own strengths and interests.

Self-confidence is promoted through opportunities for the girls to express their ideas through drama, performing in Assembly and in concerts.

During Year Two the girls develop the confidence, skills and self-belief to prepare them for a seamless transition to Upper School. They also adopt the Upper School House system and join in a number of Upper School activities such as Assemblies and Upper School Sports Day, to prepare them for beginning their Prep school education at High March.

At the end of Year 2, the classes are mixed once again to ensure that we have a balance of girls across the two classes in terms of sporting, musical and academic abilities and to encourage wider friendships.
