We have an active and enthusiastic Eco and Sustainability Committee, comprised of a representative from each class from Year 1 to 5 and our Year 6 Eco Prefects. Our pupil-led committee meets every other week to discuss ways in which High March can become more environmentally friendly and sustainable. Our committee has recently achieved The Eco Schools ‘Green Flag’ award for its commitment and innovative ways in which to make High March Eco Friendly.

Amongst the initiatives which have supported us achieving Green Flag status is ‘Waste Week’; this is a particularly fun week in which pupil are challenged to reduce the waste from their school lunch via a competition between the year groups to see which one produces the least waste food. All children and staff are encouraged to use energy wisely during ‘Switch off Fortnight’ and to work hard to ensure our plastic, paper and card waste is always recycled. We also have a clothing recycling bank at Upper School to encourage the parents to get involved as well.  We have also recently joined Bucks County Council’s initiative to be ‘Single-Use Plastic Free’ School and we are working towards our gold level in this endeavour.

Our Year 2 and Year 6 committee members also serve as our Junior Road Safety Officers and promote active and sustainable travel to and from School. Their aim is to encourage pupils to walk, cycle or scooter to School and, in particular, they support our ‘Walk to School’ and ‘Bike to School’ focus weeks.

There is an Eco-Board in both Upper School and Junior House where all pupils can see updates on our activities.
