Spanish

The girls study Spanish in Year 5 in the second half of the academic year and continue learning it in the second half of Year 6.

They are introduced to topics such as greetings, numbers, family, pets and food through a number of resources: videos, songs, language resources, linguascope website etc

While girls are encouraged to use the language orally through role-plays, games and pairs work, they are also introduced to the written language through basic reading and writing tasks.

The aim is for the girls to get a basic understanding of the language and a  basic knowledge of vocabulary and grammar before they go to their senior school.

Learning Spanish also reinforces their knowledge of French as they make associations between both languages.
