Year 3
Year 3 is the first year in Upper School, the site at 3 Ledborough Lane. Thanks to the careful preparation undertaken in Year 2, the transition to Year 3 is very smooth indeed.
As at Junior House, the Year 3 form teacher registers the girls in the morning and is responsible for their pastoral care. She is assisted by a full-time classroom assistant. The form teacher also takes the girls for English, Mathematics, Science, History and Geography. Other subjects are taught by specialist teachers and in Year 3 the list is broadened to include Art, Design and Technology and Drama; this is in preparation for Year 4 when all subjects are taught by subject specialists.
Each term there is an Educational Visits Day, which offers trips outside the classroom linked to our curriculum. Recently these have included the ‘Look Out Discovery Centre’, ‘Woburn Safari Park’ and ‘The Earth’s Trust’, all giving the girls the perfect opportunity to experience a hands-on approach to learning.
Whilst lessons in French, Religious Studies and Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) take place in the classroom, other specialist lessons such as Music, Art and ICT take place in our purpose-built specialist rooms.
The scope of extra-curricular activities is broadened considerably in Year 3 and girls have a variety of clubs from which to choose, for example, ICT, gymnastics, current affairs, pottery, music and sports clubs, including swimming squads.
The girls quickly become integrated into the life of Upper School and thrive on their new challenges and in their new environment. They are befriended by our older girls and enjoy getting to know our subject staff at Upper School, as well as their caring and experienced form teacher.
Year 3 provides the ideal beginning to our girls’ Prep school education at High March.
