A creative, cultural day

08.06.2022

Year 5 had a super time yesterday learning about African culture and trying out lots of African crafts and traditions.

Our guide was Kwame, a Ghanaian drummer, storyteller and African culture expert who filled the Upper School hall with a myriad of different types of hand made African drums, batiks and other artefacts. We started the day using carved wooden printing blocks to try out creating some African style printed cloth, then moved onto learning about and trying out some of the artefacts.

In the afternoon Kwame led a fabulously lively session where the girls had the opportunity to drum and dance to traditional African songs and rhythms sung by Kwame himself in his native language.

We all really enjoyed getting down to the African Beat!
