A fabulous week on the slopes
24.02.2020
Just before half term, Year 6 returned from a fabulous week in the ski resort of Flachau in Austria.
The girls varied in terms of ski expertise: a number were beginners, others had skied a couple of times and a lucky few were very experienced skiers. Those who had skied before took the lifts up the mountains straight away leaving the beginners to find their ‘ski legs’ on the nursery slopes. All of the groups met for lunch, the favourite restaurant being the lively ‘Dampfkessel’ at the bottom of the main ski slopes, complete with lunch time entertainment. All the girls were delighted with their progress, particularly the beginners who couldn’t quite believe how, having started off with minimal experience at best, were able to ski down some quiet steep slopes in no time at all, albeit gingerly over certain sections!
The après-ski activities certainly kept the girls busy once their skiing was over for the day. They had not one but two trips to the ‘Ski Amade’ pool, quite an attraction in the local area with its flumes, slides and light show. They also visited a bowling alley in a local hotel; the girls were organised in teams and plenty of competitive spirit was in evidence. An addition to the après-ski schedule this year was a visit to the ‘Lucky Flitzer’ toboggan run; this was received with great enthusiasm and is sure to be on the list of activities for next year.
The girls returned, tired but thrilled with their week away and full of exciting tales to tell their friends and family. It was most definitely a week to remember.
