A highly competitive duathlon at Davenies!

13.10.2023

Three High March Teams in Years 4, 5 and 6 went to Davenies on Tuesday 10th October to compete in a duathlon event. Davenies have been hosting this event since 2012 and it’s a great favourite, especially when siblings are involved. This year we enjoyed amazing weather, and it was wonderful to have some ex High March girls return and to support their friends and family.

The duathlon is a continuous run – cycle – run competition. There are no breaks between the phases and it’s a tough endurance challenge. Teams are mixed with 3 boys and 3 girls racing together in a team.  High March raced well in the cycle and run phases, but it was in transition that we were noticeably and consistently stronger.

Teams Tigers, Cheetahs and Jaguars won the Years 4, 5 and 6 events respectively, but in the spirit of rewarding the impressive effort and commitment on display, everyone received a spectacular chocolate medal. Individual medals were also awarded to the winners in each year group. In Year 4 Harriet S was the overall winner whilst in Year 6, Harriet’s sister, Annabel, raced exceptionally well and was just pipped into 2nd place by Ben C from Davenies.

Special thanks must go to Robin Thomas, Head of PE, and to the Davenies staff for organising such a wonderful event.
