A History Competition for our Budding Historians
19.11.2024
On Thursday 14 November, four Year 6 students attended Davenies School to participate in an engaging and educational history competition, where they showcased their analytical skills and enthusiasm for History. Pippa, Bethany, Arya, and Zoe attended the event, which included an exciting mix of source material analysis and hands-on learning.
The students began by exploring the mysterious sinking of the Mary Rose, the Tudor warship which sank in 1545. Working together, they examined historical sources to identify possible causes of the disaster, honing their ability to think critically about historical events.
The afternoon continued with a fascinating workshop on World War II artefacts, led by an expert from the Eton College archives. The girls had the opportunity to handle real wartime objects, deepening their understanding of history and the impact of the war on everyday life. A particular highlight was the tackling of an incendiary device using a stirrup pump and sand bucket!
Throughout the day, the girls conducted themselves brilliantly, impressing organisers with their teamwork, enthusiasm, and historical knowledge. It was a memorable and enriching experience and a great opportunity for the students to develop their passion for history.
