A very special Year 6 Prize Giving

11.07.2025

We were delighted to welcome Mrs Marina Gardiner Legge, Headmistress of Oxford High School, to our Year 6 Prize Giving last week.

Prize Giving opened with a welcome from our Headmistress, Mrs Gater, followed by a delightful musical interlude from Zoe, an Anderson Family Music Scholar, who played ‘Solfeggietto’ by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. Zoe gave an impressive performance of a very difficult piece and, what is more, played without the aid of sheet music!

Following a report on the School Year from Mrs Gater, it was time for the presentation of awards. All of Year 6 were recognised individually for helping to make High March the very special place it is with each and every girl being awarded at least one cup. Mrs Gardiner Legge then gave an inspirational speech, sharing her experience of preparing for and competing in the London Marathon following a challenging time in her life when she had suffered a serious illness. She went on to echo the words of Maya Angelou in her message to the girls, ‘Take up space!’.

After a lovely performance of ‘Tiny Feet’ by Audrey and Etta, it was time for one of the highlights of the afternoon: the Head Girls’ speech. Elisa and Sienna fast forwarded to 2130, in appropriate costumes, of course, and shared some personal and, at times, hilarious views of life at High March, including some rather interesting observations of certain members of staff…

Finally, it was time to wrap up proceedings and, in the tradition of High March, Prize Giving came to a conclusion with Year 6 singing ‘Jerusalem’ and the ‘School Song’. All in all, it was a fabulous occasion and one that Year 6 and their parents will remember for many years to come.
