A Victorian seaside experience
11.06.2026
Last week, Year 1 enjoyed an exciting Victorian Seaside Experience to launch their new History topic, ‘The History of the Seaside’
.
The girls spent the day stepping back in time to discover what a visit to the seaside might have been like during the Victorian era. Throughout the morning, they explored a range of hands-on activities, including creating seaside postcards, examining old coins and seaside souvenirs, visiting a photographic studio and learning about the different jobs people carried out at the seaside.
In the afternoon, the hall was transformed into a bustling Victorian pier. The girls took turns being both visitors and pier workers, running stalls and attractions such as hook-a-duck, souvenir shops, cafés and traditional seaside games. They particularly enjoyed spending their money at the various stalls and experiencing the excitement of a Victorian day at the seaside!
The experience provided a fantastic introduction to our new History topic and helped the girls begin to understand how seaside holidays have changed over time. We look forward to continuing our learning as we explore the history of the seaside throughout the term.
