Autumn is upon us!

09.10.2025

Last week at Forest School, the 1S girls took part in a wonderful Autumn Hunt. With their checklists in hand, they explored the woods, looking for the many signs of autumn all around them. They spotted colourful leaves changing from green to shades of gold and red, pinecones scattered across the forest floor, acorns and shiny conkers, and even signs of wildlife preparing for the colder months ahead.

Some of the girls used a conker clamp to safely make holes in conkers before threading them onto string to create beautiful autumn-inspired bracelets and necklaces. Others explored deeper into the woods, taking time to notice the sights, sounds, and textures of nature as the season begins to change.

The group also had the chance to make their own natural ink using alder cones, discovering how the deep brown colour could be drawn out from nature and used for writing and drawing. Meanwhile, in the mud kitchen, the girls’ imaginations came to life as they created delicious “recipes” for their very own Woodland Café, mixing mud, leaves, and other natural ingredients to make dishes.

This Forest School session linked beautifully with our science learning about seasonal changes. The girls observed how the environment transforms during autumn, learned through hands-on exploration and showed such creativity throughout the day.
