Be Bright, Be Seen!
23.10.2024
Our Junior Road Safety Prefects, supported by the Junior Road Safety Ambassadors from each form in Upper School, shared an important ‘Be Bright be Seen’ message to pupils ahead of the clocks changing for Winter. The Road Safety team explained how in the winter, when the light is low and visibility is poor due to the dark nights, dark mornings or poor weather, children might not be as visible to motorists as they are in the summer months, as children are smaller and less easy to see from the windscreen of a car. Being bright and visible is therefore really important to keep them safe.
The team gave examples of bright fluorescent colours to wear when out walking on dark morning and evenings and explained how reflective strips on coats and bags can also help make you visible. Many pupils also knew to add lights and reflectors to their bikes and scooters ready for the winter months. Our prefects also reminded everyone of how to cross a road safely – Stop – Look – Listen – Think.
All pupils were invited to come up with their own designs over the half term for colourful and reflective items that could be worn to ‘be bright and be seen’. The best designs will be displayed, and designers will receive a small ‘road safety’ gift.
Thank you to our Road Safety team for delivering such an important message, both at Upper School and at Junior House.
