Competing in the prestigious IAPS Triathlon Championships
18.06.2025
The IAPs triathlon championships is one of the highlights of the High March sporting calendar. It’s a very prestigious event and takes place in the beautiful grounds of Monkton Prep. This year, our Year 5 girls were racing against numerous competitors, including Princess Charlotte, who was cheered on while the Prince and Princess of Wales and the rest of the family.
The Triathlon Championships is a very different event to the other IAPs sports events in which High March participate. Although part of a team, racing is individual and requires good endurance, fitness, and stamina. The event first took place in 2022, and we are proud to have taken part every year. The event is run to strict British Triathlon rules and comprises a 200m swim (150m for Year 5), 4k cycle (2k for Year 5) and 1800m run (1200m for Year 5). No adults were allowed into transition and the girls must manage everything for themselves.
High March girls have always performed well and every year we get closer and closer to a podium position. This year our Year 6 team all finished in the top 10, (5th, 6th, 8th and 9th respectively). Our Year 5 team also raced strongly and impressed the coaches with their attitude and determination. It’s a super tough event both physically and mentally.
We were again blessed with glorious weather which made for a fabulous day of racing, supporting, and picnicking with everyone joining together to enjoy drinks, food and ice-cream.
Well done and thank you to everyone who came to support, cheer and race.
Mrs McAlister & Mrs Levison
