Excellent results at the IAPS Triathlon

23.05.2024

On Sunday 19th May, nine girls from High March went to Monkton Prep to take part in the National Triathlon Championships. Although part of a team, racing is individual and requires good endurance, fitness, and stamina.

The event is run to strict British Triathlon rules and comprises a 200m swim (150m for Year 5), 4k cycle (2k for Year 5) and 1800m run (1200m for Year 5). No adults were allowed into transition and the girls must manage everything for themselves. IAPS Triathlon first took place in 2022 and we are proud to have taken part every year and extremely grateful to Monkton Prep for hosting all three years.

High March girls have always performed well but our results this year were the best so far. In Year 5, Iris finished 4th overall with Evie 8th and Sofia 19th. As a team of 3, this was better than any of the other schools! In Year 6, Elisa continued her fabulous run at triathlon events, finishing 9th with Annabel very close on her heels. Astrid, known for her excellence in swimming, tennis and netball, demonstrated excellence in cycling, coming 5th in that phase over a challenging and technical course. Strong performances from Cara and Edie completed the Year 6 team of five.

The weather was glorious which made for a fabulous day of racing, supporting, and picnicking with everyone sharing drinks, food, suncream, goggles and number belts. It was a very special day made even more special by having Prince George on the start line, supported by his dad… and maybe one or two discreet security personnel.
