Our Year 6 netballers qualify for the national finals!
04.03.2024
On Wednesday, February 28th, seven Year 6 girls set off early for the journey to Wellington College for the IAPS qualifier event. They were very excited and keen to play after all their hard work in training and several matches leading up to this important event. It is a 5 a side Bee Netball Tournament where all the players have to rotate their playing position after every half, so everyone played every position during the Tournament at least once.
The girls started strongly in their Pool Group 4, winning their first game 7-4 against The Old Vicarage. They then went on to beat North London Collegiate 6-2. Their last game was against Kensington Prep where they notched up another win: 6-4.
As a result of these early successes, the girls won the group convincingly and proceeded to the Cup Quarter Final against City of London Freemans. They won this match too – 8-5 – , but unfortunately Edie tipped an excellent interception and injured her finger with the result that we were one player down.
The next match was the Semi-Final against Bishopsgate and the girls were very determined to win to ensure a place in the final. They played excellent netball as indeed they had done all day, coming away with a convincing 14 –2 win and a place in the National Finals. Needless to say, the whole squad was delighted as they had achieved their goal, namely to qualify for the national finals.
The final match was against Lambrook. The pressure had eased a little and they had a great game but, despite losing the match, their spirits were not dampened in the least as they knew they had qualified for the final!
The squad will now compete in the Nationals Finals at Bryanston School in Dorset, and we wish them all the luck. A big thank you must go to Mrs Green from Mrs Butterfield and the squad for all her hard work helping to coach the girls and for accompanying them on the day.
