Second place in the Wishford Athletics Competition
11.06.2026

On Tuesday 2 June, the Year 3–6 athletics team travelled to Palmer Park Athletics Stadium in Reading for the Wishford Athletics Competition. The girls were very excited, and we were fortunate with the weather after the torrential rain overnight and in the early morning. Many parents came to support, and Mrs Gater, along with headteachers from eight of the other Wishford schools, were also there to cheer us on.
The girls rotated around a carousel of events in their year groups: track – 50–80m sprint, 150m and 600m; jumps – high jump and long jump; throws – shot put and vortex; and finally, tug of war. At the end of the day, the relays took place.
The girls all performed brilliantly, especially considering that many had not competed in some of the events before, and we came away with several gold medals. In Year 3, we finished in the top three in several events and won the relay. In Year 4, we won the high jump and 150m, placed in the top three in several other events, and again won the relay. In Year 5, we also won the relay along with the long jump, and nearly all our results were in the top three. In Year 6, we achieved several top-three finishes and came second in the relay.
When the final results were announced, we were delighted to have come second in the girls’ competition out of nine schools, with Westonbirt School taking the overall trophy (boys and girls).
All the girls performed brilliantly and had a fantastic day. They are already looking forward to the next event. Thank you very much to all the parents and relatives who came to support and to the two parents who helped to team manage.
