Team Gold for Year 5 in the 2024 Biathlon Championships
07.05.2024
The University of Bath recently hosted this year’s Schools Biathlon Championships. A team of sixteen girls from Years 4, 5 and 6 represented High March and raced in this national competition. This is a highly competitive event which attracts the best athletes from schools across the country and qualifying for the finals is a fantastic achievement. With the date falling in the Easter break we sadly had a few qualify that had to withdraw due to other commitments.
But wow… the sixteen girls who raced really did excel.
The event comprises a 50m swim and an 800m run for Years 5 and 6, the distances being halved in both disciplines for Year 4. Times in each discipline are converted to points and achieving 2000 points is a true badge of honour.
We are delighted to report that Amber, Evie, Iris, Alice, Zoe and Astrid all scored more than 2000 points. The top three athletes in each year group are then grouped into a team. We are immensely proud of our Year 5 team (Evie, Iris, Alice) who took the top spot, winning gold medals, and truly inspiring us all, with their amazing performances. Evie, with a score of 2471 points, only just missed an individual medal, finishing in 4th place.
Huge congratulations to all the High March athletes who put themselves forward to race in the qualifying events and in the championships – their dedication to training and their achievements are truly remarkable.
Many thanks to British Pentathlon for organising this wonderful competition and to our fabulous parents for all their support and encouragement.
