The Year 6 ‘Singing Picture’ competition
15.05.2023
The Year Six girls recently participated in the annual ‘Singing Picture’ competition, in which every girl has to learn the nominated song and perform it as a solo in front of the Headmistress and the Director of Music.
The set piece this year was the first verse of the traditional hymn, ‘Morning Has Broken’, with the words by English author Eleanor Farjeon, accompanied by the traditional Gaelic melody, ‘Bunessan’. The song presented notably challenging pitching demands as well as the need for lyrical and measured phrasing. We were excited to see all of the girls rising to these challenges with abundant musicality and control. As always, it was very difficult for the judges to decide on the winners, but our congratulations go to Abbie and Audrey who were specially mentioned, Suri and Sylvie who were commended, Annabelle and Jessica who were highly commended and the overall winner was Lara.
Well done to all girls in Year Six.
