Time for cricket!
19.05.2023
On Thursday 19th May, twenty Year 3 pupils were very excited to be travelling to Westbrook Hay School for their first ever cricket match. The girls have been learning cricket in their PE lessons and their batting, bowling and fielding skills have been progressing very well.
On arrival they were split into three teams, two teams to play diamond cricket and one team to play pairs cricket with overarm bowling, a first for us! The girls picked this up very quickly and were soon bowling overarm with great precision in the pairs game. They went on to score plenty of runs and even some fours. They came away with a win and were understandably very happy with this. The opposition voted Emilia their Player of the Match for her batting and high number of runs.
The diamond teams worked very well in their separate teams, communicating effectively and, in the first round, we won one game and lost one. It didn’t take long for the girls to get into their stride and both teams went on to win their second matches convincingly, taking the total to 1-4 to High March. The team was very successful in the batting with the other schools’ teachers commenting on the high standard of batting. Penelope was voted Player of the Diamond matches for her excellent batting and runs.
The girls were very happy with their successes and enjoyed the team teas! Mrs Butterfield, who accompanied the girls to the fixture, was delighted to see how much the girls have progressed in such a short period of time.
