Waddesdon’s Pottery Treasures
31.10.2022
Just before half term, Year 5 girls were thrilled and excited to take a trip to the beautiful Rothschild Manor House at Waddesdon.
We started the day with a visit to the newly opened Treasury to view many priceless artefacts. Later, in a wonderful workshop, the girls handled Sèvres porcelain from the 1700s, learning how to read the date and makers’ marks. They also studied the two modern pot portraits ‘Baron Ferdinand and Miss Alice’ created by the ceramic artist, Kate Malone, and they looked around the Manor for her sources of inspiration.
In the afternoon the girls got their hands dirty, creating their very own clay models inspired by the beautiful pumpkins grown on the Waddesdon and Eythrope estates.
Everyone returned to school happy and tired with their very impressive clay models, not to mention lots of ‘treasure’ from the shop …….!
