‘We will remember them’
15.11.2024
On a chilly November morning, our Year 6 pupils took part in a heartfelt Remembrance Service for local schools at the Beaconsfield War Memorial, joining members of the local community to honour those who sacrificed their lives in service to their country. It was a significant occasion, giving our girls a memorable experience that united them in reflection, respect, and commitment to peace.
The service began with readings and prayers including our drama prefects who delivered the Exhortation and the Kohima Epitaph with remarkable poise and clarity. Their heartfelt reading captured the solemnity of the occasion and added a profound sense of reverence to the event. This was followed by our Head Girls laying a wreath on behalf of the school, a solemn tribute that underscored the respect and gratitude felt by everyone present.
After the readings, the last post was played and a two-minute silence was observed, providing everyone, young and old, a moment to remember and honour the countless lives lost in conflict. This period of silence was a powerful reminder of the cost of war and the enduring hope for peace. Finally, in an inspiring gesture of unity, the children from all the schools present joined the rest of the community in reciting the Commitment to Peace—a pledge to work towards a future free from the shadow of war.
The service was not only a commemoration of the past but also a meaningful way for our pupils to reflect on the values of courage, sacrifice, and unity. It reminded us all of the importance of honouring those who came before us by striving for a peaceful and compassionate world.
