Year 1 explore toys from yesteryear

04.11.2024

Just before half term, Year One were very lucky to have the ‘History off the Page’ company provide a workshop all about toys from the past; this linked to the learning which the girls had covered in class in their history topic all throughout the first half term.

The morning was full of excitement, as the girls explored toys from the past and the present, found out what they were made of and how they moved. They then had the opportunity to become archaeologists, digging through soil to find parts of toys. From this, they then sorted their discoveries by materials.

In the afternoon, the girls demonstrated their creative skills through designing and making a range of toys such as hook the fish, flip books and pecking birds. They were delighted when they realised that they could take their homemade toys away with them in bags which they had decorated themselves.

A great day was had by all, and we would like to extend a big thank you to all of the parent volunteers who came into school to help to make the day as fun and memorable as possible.
