Year 2 explore Tate Britain

20.11.2025

Year 2 enjoyed a wonderful visit to Tate Britain last week. Unlike previous visits, the gallery was unexpectedly pleasantly quiet, a real bonus! After a quick snack to refuel following the journey to London, the girls began their exploration of the gallery.

They were excited to recognise many paintings and sculptures they had discussed in their Art lessons — from the rich colours of the Pre-Raphaelites and the atmospheric tones of J. M. W. Turner to a range of contemporary and abstract works. They also showed genuine curiosity in learning more about the stories behind the artworks.

The girls were particularly interested in the sculptures by Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore, taking the opportunity to look closely at the materials and techniques used. This experience supported their own sculpture work in the Art lesson which followed. The girls who attend the Year 2 Art Club also enjoyed spotting pieces they had previously re-created.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable day, made even more special by the many compliments received about the girls’ respectful behaviour throughout the visit.
