High March to the rescue!

14.10.2024

There was much excitement at Junior House at lunchtime today when Miss Birt, one of our Reception teachers, spotted an owl which had got caught in the netting surrounding the large pine Tree in the Junior House playground. One of its talons was caught in the netting and was hanging upside down!

Our Maintenance team sprang into action,  attempting to reach it, but their ladders were not long enough. Mrs Nedeljkovic, one of our Learning Support teachers,  called a local friend, Jenny, who volunteers for the RSPCA, and she sped over straight away. However, when she saw the height of the tree and realised that our attempts at rescue had failed, she called the Fire and Rescue Service. A team was duly despatched, and with the use of one of their very long ladders, they successfully managed to cut the Owl free.

Jenny wrapped the Owl in a towel, put her in a pet carrier and she took her over to Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital in Haddenham for treatment. The owl is quite young and Jenny suspects that it might have been chased by a Red Kite.

All’s well that ends well!
