Year 3 take part in their first ever gala

Last week, eighteen girls from the Year 3 Swim Squad walked to the local boys’ prep school, Davenies, for a friendly swimming gala. For most of our girls this was their first ever gala and, whilst they were keen to do well, they were also very nervous. This was a ‘non-result’ competition as we wanted the girls to focus on the joy of competing and doing their best rather than focusing on the results.

The gala ran very smoothly and our girls were very focused; they managed the time-keeping for their events independently and they also stayed calm during relay takeovers. It was also remarkable how passionately and loudly they supported and encouraged one another. The gala finished with a relay of all the girls competing against all the boys in a squadron which, to our great delight, saw High March as the winners.

We would like to take the opportunity to thank our Swim Captains for their support towards the younger swimmers. Their nurturing and understanding attitude towards Year 3 Swim Squad swimmers contributed greatly towards making this gala a very positive first experience for our Year 3 swimmers. Well done e to everyone who took part!
