A day of musical theatre
08.03.2024
A fantastic day of dancing, singing and acting was had by a selection of Year 5 girls who attended the Prep School Day of Musical Theatre at Downe House school in Cold Ash. This year’s event was based on the musical ‘Bugsy Malone’ by Alan Parker and Paul Williams. This classic show for young people takes the mad world of New York mobsters in the 1920’s and gives it a musical comedy twist. The morning was spent learning the dance to ‘So you want to be a Boxer’, then learning the song itself and, lastly, they took part in an acting workshop to create a scene which led into the dance. All was taught by the fantastic drama specialists who work at Downe House.
After a hearty lunch of Tallulah’s tagliatelle with Italian meatballs, followed by Blousey’s custard cream pie, it was then time to collaborate with the other four prep schools to put all the scenes, songs and dances together to create an abridged version of the show. This was performed in front of parents from all the schools as well as Downe House staff and girls. Our High March girls showed their professionalism throughout the day, and were at home oozing with mobster style and confidence on the large performing arts stage equipped with microphones and lights. The girls worked so hard and lots of fun was had by all.
Thank you, Downe House, for inviting us – we can’t wait to come back next year!
