Success at public speaking
18.11.2022
Earlier this month, High March took part in The Rotary Junior Youth Speaks event at St Mary’s School. Year 6 pupils, Anoushka, Alex and Alaina presented a four-minute speech about kindness which they had written and practised beforehand. Teams from Gayhurst, Thorpe House and St Mary’s presented speeches across a range of topics including Living on Mars, Inspirational Women and Should women and girls be saved first? A panel of judges from Chalfont St Peter Rotary Club judged the teams on their speech quality, volume, clarity, expression and teamwork. After all the teams had delivered their speeches, the judges retired to choose the winning team and parents, pupils and staff enjoyed some light refreshments.
Many congratulations to the High March team which was unanimously awarded first place by the panel of judges. The judges praised the girls for their clarity and expression when delivering their persuasive speech about the value of kindness in our lives; the chair of the panel felt their kindness message had really struck a chord, not only with them but also the rest of the audience. Furthermore, Anoushka was awarded the best individual speaker award!
