Victory at the Spelling Bee competition
26.01.2023
Mrs Gater was delighted to accompany a group of Year 5 girls to Queen Anne’s School last Friday afternoon to take part in their Spelling Bee (a competition which is happily back after an absence for the last few years). Again, all three of the High March core values, namely kindness, friendship and educational excellence, were on display with thoughtfulness and support demonstrated by the girls, as well as some superb spelling!
All the girls performed very well and coped brilliantly with the nerves and excitement of the event – with one of our teams coming away as joint winners in the team event. Evani and Ayanna reached the final three in the head-to-head section, with Evani finally victorious against tough competition from Highfield School. The girls were also placed third in the ‘Quickfire’ round and as a team in the head-to-head.
Well done to all the girls who represented High March, Ayaana, Darcey, Edie, Evani, Florence and Naomi and particular thanks to Darcey who stepped in at the last minute and did a great job. Teachers and Mums all needed a lie-down after the event – we were exhausted after spelling every single word in our heads!
