Wonderful ceramics at Waddesdon
24.10.2024
On Wednesday 23rd October, Year 5 took a trip to the spectacular French château style Rothschild property Waddesdon Manor.
We had wonderful weather and enjoyed a packed day. We looked at and handled Waddesdon’s impressive collection of Sèvres porcelain and modern Kate Malone ceramics. We learned about Waddesdon Manor’s founders, Baron Ferdinand and Miss Alice de Rothschild, and why they inspired Kate Malone in her pottery.
In the afternoon we took inspiration from the wonderful pumpkins and squashes grown in Waddesdon’s Eythrope kitchen garden to sculpt our own pots with lids out of clay.
Our highly enjoyable visit was topped off with a ‘compulsory’ (!) visit to the award winning Waddesdon shop.
